Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 1, 2026
1. Introduction
KML KMZ Viewer is published by Chiranjeevi Pandey. This policy describes how the iOS app handles information and how to contact us about privacy: sublimecoder247@gmail.com.
In this policy, “we” and “us” mean Chiranjeevi Pandey. We are the controller of personal information we receive and decide how to use, such as support correspondence and diagnostics made available to us. Apple and other external providers determine their own handling of information for their services. We do not receive or centrally manage the contents of your local file library.
This policy covers the iOS app and correspondence about it. A website hosting this policy may have separate hosting logs, cookies, or analytics; those practices must be disclosed by that website where applicable.
2. Our approach
The app lets you import and view KML and KMZ files on Apple Maps. It does not require an account and has no developer-operated server for your map files. Parsing, feature search, and library management happen on your device. The current app does not include advertising, analytics SDKs, or cross-app tracking, and we do not sell personal information.
We do not use personal information for targeted advertising or make decisions about you with legal or similarly significant effects through automated decision-making or profiling.
Local processing does not mean the app never accesses the internet. Apple Maps and remote images referenced by imported files may contact external services, as explained below.
3. Files and local information
When you select a file through Files or open it from another app, the app copies it into its own local storage. Files can contain coordinates, names, descriptions, images, addresses, contact information, and other attributes. The app reads this content to display the map and feature details.
The app also stores library information locally, including file names, display names, file types, sizes, import and last-opened dates, parsing status, feature counts, and internal identifiers. KMZ archives are extracted into local cache directories so their embedded content can be displayed. We do not automatically receive your imported files, their contents, or your searches.
If you choose a file from iCloud Drive or another Files provider, that provider may download it and handle information under its own privacy policy. Your device's backup settings may include the app's documents and library information in Apple or computer backups. The app does not provide its own cloud synchronization service.
4. Location and Apple Maps
The app requests location permission when you enable the current-location control. It uses your location to show you on the map while the app is in use. You can decline or revoke permission in iOS Settings and continue viewing imported files. The app does not record a location history or request background location access.
Apple provides the map service. Map requests can disclose the area you are viewing, including areas containing imported features. Apple handles network, device, and location information associated with its services according to its policies and your settings. See Apple's Privacy Policy and Maps & Privacy.
5. Images and links in imported files
Embedded KMZ icons and supported packaged images are loaded locally. If a feature references a remote marker icon, the app may request that icon automatically when rendering the map. Remote photos in feature descriptions are disabled by default; enabling “Load remote photos” allows those images to be requested.
An image host can receive your IP address, the requested URL, and ordinary network request information. A URL chosen by the file's author may itself contain identifiers, coordinates, or other information. System networking may cache remote icons and handle cookies according to its defaults. Description content is displayed with JavaScript disabled and a nonpersistent website data store. These measures do not prevent the image host from receiving an allowed image request.
Opening an external website, email address, phone number, or location link hands that action to the appropriate app or service. Its privacy practices apply. Import files only from sources you trust, particularly when they reference external images or links.
6. Sharing and the clipboard
Sharing an imported file sends the original imported copy to the recipient or service you select. Sharing a feature location sends a map link containing coordinates. Copying coordinates places them on the system clipboard, where access is governed by iOS. These actions occur at your direction; recipients and other services may retain or further share the information.
7. Diagnostics and support
The app writes operational messages to Apple's local logging system, such as parsing failures and rendering warnings. Error messages may include file names or paths. There is no dedicated developer telemetry service in the app. Apple may provide crash reports or TestFlight diagnostics according to its services and your device or testing settings.
If you email us, we receive your email address, message, and any information or attachments you choose to send. We use them to respond, troubleshoot, and handle privacy requests. Avoid sending sensitive map files unless needed for support. Our email provider processes correspondence to deliver and store it. We may disclose support information when legally required or necessary to protect rights or security, subject to applicable law.
Support information comes from you, or from a person contacting us on your behalf. Diagnostics may come from Apple. Do not send another person's sensitive information unless you have a lawful reason to do so. We do not need government identity documents or your complete map library for routine support.
8. Processing purposes and legal grounds
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies to processing for which we are responsible, the relevant grounds depend on the purpose:
| Purpose | Information involved | Legal ground |
|---|---|---|
| Provide the core file-viewing functions you request | Selected files, parsed features, and library metadata processed locally | Performance of the agreement to provide the app, to the extent this processing is objectively necessary to deliver those functions |
| Answer support questions and investigate reported problems | Contact details, correspondence, voluntarily supplied attachments, and available diagnostics | Legitimate interests in helping users and maintaining a functioning, secure app; contractual necessity where the response is necessary to provide an agreed service |
| Protect the app, investigate misuse, or establish and defend legal claims | Relevant correspondence and diagnostic information | Legitimate interests in security, preventing misuse, and protecting legal rights, balanced against the rights of affected individuals |
| Respond to privacy requests and comply with applicable obligations | Contact details and information necessary to handle the request or obligation | Compliance with an applicable legal obligation; for GDPR Article 6(1)(c), an obligation under applicable EU or Member State law, or the corresponding applicable UK law |
| Use optional functionality where consent is the required legal ground | Information needed for the optional function | Your consent, where valid consent is required; it can be withdrawn without affecting processing lawfully carried out before withdrawal |
Permission to access location or enable a photo is a device or feature control. It does not provide blanket consent for unrelated processing or international transfers. We do not rely on acceptance of the terms as consent to advertising or tracking. External services are responsible for explaining their own legal grounds; a file author's inclusion of a remote URL does not establish your consent to that host's practices.
You do not have to provide support information or enable location to use the basic file viewer. A selected file is needed to display that file, and sufficient contact and problem information is needed to answer a support request. If you decline optional information, the related optional function may be unavailable. For information about our legitimate-interest purposes, or to object to that processing, use the contact address above.
9. Recipients and international processing
Information may be handled by Apple for maps, distribution, backups, and diagnostics; your chosen Files provider; hosts of remote images referenced in files; recipients or apps you choose when sharing; and our email provider when you contact support. Our published contact address uses Google's Gmail service. See Google's Privacy Policy for its service practices. Relevant information may also be disclosed to authorities or professional advisers when necessary and lawful.
Support correspondence and external-service requests may be processed in countries other than your own, including outside the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom. Destinations depend on the provider, the remote host specified in a file, and where support is handled. Those countries may have different data-protection laws. Local file import does not itself send your entire library to those providers.
International processing for which we are responsible must meet applicable transfer requirements. Depending on the recipient and circumstances, a lawful mechanism may include an applicable adequacy decision or appropriate contractual safeguards. This statement does not mean every external image host has been reviewed, that a particular transfer mechanism is in place for every request, or that an iOS permission authorizes a transfer. Contact us for information about the destinations and safeguards applicable to personal information we hold. External providers' policies describe their own international processing.
10. Security
The app uses iOS application storage protections and restricts imported archive paths and description content. These measures reduce risk but do not guarantee that a device, imported file, or external service is secure. Protect your device with a passcode, keep iOS updated, and keep independent copies of important files. Remote URLs may use HTTP or HTTPS as supplied by the file and permitted by iOS; do not assume all external images use an encrypted connection.
If you believe the app exposed personal information, contact us without including unnecessary sensitive attachments. Where a personal-data breach for which we are responsible requires notification under applicable law, we will follow those notification requirements.
11. Retention and deletion
Imported copies and library information remain on your device until you delete them or remove the app's data. Deleting a file from the library removes the app's imported copy and its library entry; it does not delete the source file in Files, copies you shared, or existing backups. Removing a map layer only removes it from the current view.
Extracted KMZ content and image caches may remain temporarily, particularly if the app closes unexpectedly, until cleanup or system cache removal. Offloading the app may preserve its documents; uninstalling normally removes its local container. Backups are managed separately through your device or backup provider.
We retain support correspondence while a request is active and afterwards only where needed for follow-up, investigation of a recurring problem, handling a dispute, or an applicable legal obligation. The appropriate period depends on the issue's resolution, whether an attachment is still needed, and any applicable legal retention or claim period. Unnecessary copies and attachments should be removed when those purposes end. You can ask us to delete information you supplied; provider backups or legal obligations may limit immediate deletion. Diagnostic retention also depends on Apple's service settings and any copies needed to investigate an issue.
12. Your choices and rights
You can manage imported files in the library, revoke location permission in Settings, leave remote description photos disabled, and choose whether to share files or open external links. Remote marker icons do not currently have a separate in-app permission switch; remove remote references from the source file or restrict network access if you need to avoid those requests. Basemap availability depends on connectivity and system caching.
Depending on applicable law and the circumstances, your rights may include:
- Access to your personal information and information about its use.
- Correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Deletion of information, subject to lawful exceptions.
- Restriction of processing in the circumstances provided by law.
- Objection to processing based on legitimate interests, including reasons relating to your situation.
- Receipt of information you supplied in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format, and transmission to another controller, where the portability right applies to automated processing based on consent or a contract.
- Withdrawal of consent where processing relies on consent, without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing.
- A complaint to the relevant data protection authority, including the authority in your habitual residence, workplace, or the place of an alleged infringement where applicable.
Email sublimecoder247@gmail.com to make a request or raise a concern. Tell us which information or interaction your request concerns. We may request proportionate information to verify your identity and protect other people's data. We will not require unnecessary identity documents. You may use an authorized representative where applicable law permits it.
Where the EU GDPR applies, we respond without undue delay and normally within one month of receiving a request. If its complexity or number requires a permitted extension, we will explain the reason within that first month; the extension may be up to two additional months. For other laws, we follow their applicable deadlines and verification rules. Requests are ordinarily free of charge. If a legally permitted exception prevents us from fulfilling a request, we will explain the reason and available complaint options.
These rights apply to information within the scope of the applicable law, not only information you emailed us. However, we cannot remotely access or delete your device's imported files, another provider's records, or recipients' shared copies. Use the library and device controls for local data and contact the relevant provider for its records. We do not need to collect new identifying information solely to identify a user of locally processed files.
13. Children and policy changes
The app is not designed specifically for children. If you believe a child sent personal information to us through support, contact us to request its deletion.
The app does not verify users' ages. A parent or guardian should supervise use where appropriate, especially importing files, opening external links, and sharing locations. Where applicable law requires parental authorization for processing for which we are responsible, that requirement applies; this policy does not replace it.
We will update this policy when the app's practices change and revise the date above. Material changes will be communicated through an appropriate channel, such as release information or an in-app notice. Any consent required by applicable law will be requested separately.
